A little bit of History....
Italy is known as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. People love the food, the language, and the art that comes from this great country. But, how did Italy become the country we see today, with its beautiful architecture and luscious vineyards? Modern humans arrived in Italy about 40,000 years ago. They were divided into 3 groups, Oscans, Umbrians and Latins. These groups settled in the Northern part of Italy. The groups were able to survive because of the amount of large-seeded grass species in the area was high with 32 different species. And although other areas were located in the Mediterranean as well not all Mediterranean zones had the same large seeded grass that the Fertile Crescent, which is where Italy is located, did.
It is thought that the first settlers of Italy were divided into three different groups called the Iapygian, Etruscan, and Italian. The Iapygians were the very first group of people to settle in Italy. They came from somewhere North of Italy but it is not known exactly where. They spoke a language called the Messapian language which was a Indo-European language spoken throughout Southern Italy. Not much is known about how these people lived but it is known that immigrants eventually pushed them to the Southern most part of Italy.
The Etruscans were a powerful group who were feared by the other inhabitants of Italy. They also probably came from the north, but it is not known for sure. They first settled in a place known as the plain of the Po, but eventually were pushed south into Etruria by various conflicts. This is where they began their civilization and formed a group of Here twelve different cities, making them extremely intelligent. We have since found many preserved monuments of their art, but we do not yet understand their language so we can not read their writings.
The Italians belonged to the Aryan race, a people that lived in earliest times possibly in Scandinavia. At this time the Italians had made considerable progress in civilization. They understood the art of agriculture, growing crops and using them as food. They also understood the building of houses, and had more advanced shelter than other people of their time. Very early on they learned that you must transport goods in order for everyone to have them, and they had some of the earliest wagons and boats. They also learned to make fire and used it to prepare food. They used copper and silver to mold weapons.
Overall, the first groups of people to move to Italy were more advanced then the other countries around them. The land they discovered was fertile and held many different crops and animals that were able to thrive there. While they were definitely intelligent, it was the opportunities that they were presented by the land that helped them advance and grow into what we now know as modern day Italy.

Using the sources above I was able to find out the different groups of people that settled in Italy, and also able to figure out how they were able to survive there. The maps provided also show the resources that were available to the earliest settlers and the weather they experienced which is a big part of while they were able to thrive.
These two population periods show an increase in population over 50 years. Although the population as a whole has seen a decently large increase the population of men and women has always been fairly equal.
